Zayn Malik has enjoyed plenty of number one hits in the past with former boy band One Direction; however this time with the release of his debut studio album ‘Mind of Mine’ Zayn has manged to score a number one.
Despite the fact ‘Mind of Mine’ was only released less than a week ago on March 25th, the album stormed into the charts directly at number one in the albums.
Zayn spoke to the Official Charts about his successes:
“I want to thank all the fans and my team at RCA and First Access Entertainment for everything they have done to help me start my journey as a solo artist,” Zayn told Official Charts.
“It really is the beginning. I can’t believe that I have managed to achieve this as a solo artist.
“I am very proud coming from Bradford achieving this in my home country. It’s mind-blowing to me.”
‘Mind of Mine’ has also enjoyed widespread critical acclaim, something that his work with One Direction did not always get; commercial success sure, but critically the albums were always received somewhat lukewarm.
Zayn has also been widely praised for the musical style attempted in the album, moving past pop tunes and radio friendly music to more complex styles. Zayn plays an obvious tribute to his Pakistani family with the song ‘Flower’ singing one part of the song in Urdu.
It’s pleasing to see Zayn’s success, showing that singers can move past their initial reputation, whatever that may be. Will this motivate the other remaining members of One Direction to leave and make their own music career? Who knows, but one thing is for certain, I doubt Zayn is regretting his decision to leave.
