Former One Direction star Zayn Malik cancelled his concert in Newcastle at the last-minute, leaving fan sad and disappointed. Malik’s first tour after being part of One Direction has met multiple road bumps so far, with the whole of the US leg being rescheduled as well as some UK shows.
Malik was supposed to play, as part of his tour “Stairway to the Sky”, Newcastle City Hall. Shortly before the artist was supposed to start the performance, it was announced that the concert would “no longer go ahead”. The announcement then directed fans to ask their ticket seller for a refund. Malik’s team and the artist announced that they waited until the last minute in hopes that the performance could go ahead but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
a message from Zayn:
“I’m so sorry to do this but my voice just isn’t there at all tonight and without it there’s no show. I’m truly sorry to let you down, especially at such short notice…l held onto hope until the very last moment.

Malik then took to social media to apologize to fans and reveal the reason behind the sudden cancellation. On an Instagram story, the artist wrote that he was sorry to cancel, but his voice was completely gone and without it he couldn’t perform. He then went on to write that he waited to make the announcement hoping he’d feel better, and that he hoped that his voice would come back before the following show.
So far, the stops of “Stairway to the Sky” have taken the Bradford-born singer to London, Manchester, Leeds and Wolverhampton. In Wolverhampton, hometown of Malik’s late band member Liam Payne, the former took a moment to remember the One Direction star who recently passed away due to a fall from a balcony.
Malik confessed to fans attending the gig that he hopes Payne sees his concerts. Due to Payne’s passing, Malik rescheduled the US leg of his tour which was initially supposed to take place in October. Later on, he also rescheduled the Edinburgh dates so that he could attend Payne’s funeral, where he reunited with former band members Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.

While fans were understanding of Malik’s rescheduling and supported him, the news about the Newcastle cancellation came much more suddenly and left fans disappointed. Unlike other dates, it wasn’t rescheduled, giving Newcastle fans little hope to see Malik anytime soon.
The “Stairway to the Sky” tour is ending shortly with a few more dates set in the UK, and the rescheduled dates in Edinburgh. Early next year, Malik will begin the US leg of the tour.
