Yungen returns with a GRM Daily Duppy. The south London rapper coming out of Herne hill took to the infamous freestyle platform to give fans their first bit of Yungen music since his track “Mane and Salah”, which he released in 2020 following the rapper’s team, Liverpool FC, winning the Premier League.
The 29-year-old stepped up to the platform and covered a few topics including his lack of awards, not being brought up when people are making UK rap top 10 lists and flexes on listeners with the success he has amassed.
Before Yungens hiatus the rapper was putting out a number of singles and hits alongside artists from the UK scene, between 2017 adn 2019 he worked on tracks alongside Craig David, One Acen, M24, Dappy, Jess Glyne, Not3s, Mr Eazi, Mo Stack and Yxng Bane. Yungen had a number of hits such as his track “Beste” which he released in 2017 alongside Yxng Bane the track was one of the earliest tracks to come from the UK rap scene and have such commercial success, peaking on the charts at 10th and spending 31 weeks on the charts, as well as chart success the track also sits on just over 77 million Spotify streams. His track alongside Mr Eazi, Mo Stack adn Not3s was a steel Bnaglez track adn the song titled “Bad” reached 29th on the carts and sits on 55 million Spotify streams.
Yungen has been rapping for over 10 years and despite what he says in his Daily duppy, to real fans of UK rap is a legend within the scene. His career has seen his connection with fellow south London rappers Krept and Konan with Yungen being an official member of the Play dirty collective, he has also been involved in classic rap beef with grime star Chip in 2016 with the pair sending diss track back and forth.
