English rock band Yuck have announced that they have broken up. The news comes ten years after the release of the group’s debut album.
In a statement on Twitter, the band wrote: “We’ve released 3 albums together and I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved, but we all felt it was important to know when to draw the line. It wasn’t an easy thing to come to terms with. I want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support over the years, everyone who came to shows, bought out record, bought out merch.”
The statement continues: “There was a special and unique chemistry between myself, Daniel, Jonny and Mariko that I can’t quite put my finger on, but I believe you can hear it in the music.”

Yuck originally formed in 2009, featuring members Max Bloom on lead guitar, Mariko Doi on bass, Jonny Rogoff on drums, and Daniel Blumberg on rhythm guitar. Ed Hayes replaced Blumberg in 2013. The band released three albums; their self-title debut in 2011, Glow & Behold in 2013, and Stranger Things in 2016.
The band were popular for their guitar-heavy, 90s-influenced style. Rolling Stone Magazine wrote: “Yuck channel their college-rock jones with skill and charm, balancing in-the-red guitar fuzz with melodic sweetness.” Frank Mojica of Consequence of Sound mused: “Anyone can recreate a sound, but Yuck succeed where most bands fail by digging under the surface to capture the spirit and magic that made the music of their beloved idols possible.”
Bloom also announced that he would be releasing new music later this year. His debut album, Perfume, was released in 2020. He later responded to the outpouring of support from fans on Twitter, writing: “I honestly did not expect such a big reaction to Yuck’s break-up announcement. It’s overwhelming to see all the messages of support. I’ve collected the best ones and will show my parents, in a last ditch attempt to prove to them that my life hasn’t been a waste of time.”
