Last night You Me At Six unveiled a video for their brand new explosive track ‘MAKEMEFEELALIVE’. The long anticipated release came after a series of posts on the band’s social media channels, teasing the new materials over the last couple of days.
As part of the clever marketing campaign, random people who seem to have purchased from the online store in the past also received postcards through their mail. This quickly led to the #2020invasionVI account getting followers and further adding to the hype surrounding all the mystery. Shortly after the reveal yesterday, another post was added suggesting “this round” was only the beginning, hinting to more new material potentially coming out soon.
This is the second new single released this year after You Me At Six dropped the powerful ‘Our House (The Mess We Made)’ in February in support of the Australian charity WIRES fighting to save wildlife during the disastrous bush fires. Last year, the band also revealed ‘What’ s It Like‘, their first new track after the release of their last album VI in 2018.
Earlier in July, guitarist Max Helyer tweeted that the “wait isn’t too long” for their new album. These news added to their fans’ excitement after Josh Franceschi told Kerrang! their new material is going to be “the rockiest record” in a long time. If the new single is any indication, the band is sure to surprise us with a heavier and more aggressive sound.
Just a tweet to let you know that I’ve just listened to the masters of our new record this morning, I cannot wait for you to hear this body of work we worked so hard on, the wait isn’t long…. @youmeatsix

“MAKEMEFEELALIVE” is an energetic and explicit 2-minute long tirade on feeling alive and in control again. Stylistically, the new track marks a shift back to their earlier punk rock sound, a change from ‘Our House’ and ‘What’s It like’ that relied heavily on electronics. Distored guitars and harsher vocals add to the raw energy of the single, further distancing it from the polished production we got used to with previous releases.
The video starts with an intense one minute intro before showing frontman Josh Franceschi having his left eye taken out after an altercation with a masked man. The screen splits in two separate impressive long take shots, following one-eyed Franceschi on the left and his attacker carrying the other eye on the right. British actor Leigh Gill of Joker, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Game of Thrones makes a brief cameo at the start.
You Me At Six were formed in 2004 and quickly rose to fame with their debut record Take Off Your Clothes (2008, Slam Dunk). To this day their most successful release is their fourth studio album Cavalier Youth (2014, BMG) that debuted at #1 in the Official UK and Scottish Albums Chart, and peaked at #1 in the US Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart.
