Years & Years have announced that Kylie Minogue will feature on a new version of the popular single ‘Starstruck’. A snippet of the song was first shared on TikTok on the 29th of March, where Olly Alexander started a new challenge, encouraging users to post their best lockdown glowups to the audio of ‘Starstruck’.
This project will not mark the first time that the two has collaborated. Kylie Minogue and Olly Alexander have previously sang Kylie’s hit ‘Better The Devil You Know’ together at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of Kylie’s Christmas Show, back in 2016. Furthermore, Years & Years have played right before Kylie’s set at Glastonbury in 2019 and it seems they have kept in touch ever since. Olly Alexander has uploaded a short story time video on TikTok to explain the history between the two and how they came to work together.
@ollyalexanderlet me tell you about being STARSTRUCK by the icon @kylieminogue #starstruck Starstruck – Years & Years
The singer has said this about the song: “‘Starstruck’ is about the rush you get when you’re with somebody you’re really into, it’s about holding onto a good feeling and not letting it go. Like most of us I’ve spent the past year at home, and I wanted to create something super positive and fun for people (and myself) to bop along too. Whatever we’re doing or wherever we are in life, I think we all deserve three minutes of interstellar ecstasy.”
‘Starstruck’ is the first single Years & Years have released as a solo project – Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen departed the group on 18th of March this year, however they remain close friends with Olly Alexander. On Instagram, they wrote: “This upcoming new album has been an Olly endeavour and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project. The three of us are still good friends. Mikey will be part of the Y&Y family and play with us live and Emre will focus on being a writer/producer. These past twelve months have been crazy for us all and we want to thank you for the love and support you’ve given us over the years (& years).”
