The much-beloved New York indie trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs have declared a triumphant return to the UK after nine long years. Offering dates on; 05/06/2022- O2 Apollo Manchester and 07/06- O2 Academy Brixton in London.
Having last blessed the British Isles at 2018’s ‘All Points East Festival’ in London’s Victoria Park, a full five years after their 2013 tour that followed the release of their fourth record ‘Mosquito’.
The band stated via a press release “OK UK! We are coming to lend our light to dark ages”. A call to arms for the legions of fans eager to experience one of the most prolific alternative bands since as early as the year 2000. YYYs have been lauded for their moving yet chaotic style, described here as; ‘Storming hell-for-studded-leather into ‘Y Control’ with Nick Zinner spooling out his celestial sewer riffs between taking snapshots of the crowd, Brian Chase drumming with all the grinning delirium of a cult captive and Karen whipping the monitors with her mike lead like a dervish dominatrix of PA equipment, they throw themselves into a tight and tumultuous hour without an ounce of flab in sight.’ It’s stories such as these that create such powerful mythos.
If that wasn’t enough to whet one’s appetite, the band have also nodded towards the prospect of new material for the forthcoming gigs; “Yeah we’ve got some tunes so fresh and so NEW to try out on you!”. Throwing down the gauntlet that will have fans clamouring for a chance to hear what’s new in the world of the YYYs.
Alongside the headlining act, the dates will also feature an exciting crop of openers; ‘English Teacher’ 05/06/2022- O2 Apollo Manchester. As well as ‘Dry Cleaning’ & ‘ANIKA’ 07/06- O2 Academy Brixton. Tantalising to enthusiasts of both the band and its sonic legacy. With the support acts fitting the bill for all concerned.
After a long spell away from the likes of us here in the UK, not least in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The YYYs encourage prospective attendees to; “Dress up! Make a night of it! Support your fave band that you may have seen debut at Brixton back in ’02!! Yeah let’s not wait another decade to see each other again! CANNOT WAIT! They don’t love ya like we do!! Luv YYYs”
