Perhaps one of the most exciting projects currently in the South London hotpot, Brixton natives Wu-Lu have been stoking considerable interest with their brazen brand of British urban punk music, with occasional hints of lo-fi beats, fuzzy grunge chords and industrial breaks. The collective is the brainchild of Miles Romans- Hopcraft, a multi-instrumentalist and producer who until now has made this music malarkey seem just so effortless. So, as it was announced that the band will have their debut album released via Warp this summer, fans will no doubt sit up straight and listen.
The new album is titled; Loggerhead and is due to drop on the 8th of July 2022 via Warp records. You can see the album artwork and tracklist down below:
Loggerhead:
01 “Take Stage”
02 “Night Pill [ft. Asha]”
03 “Facts”
04 “Scrambled Tricks”
05 “South [ft. Lex Amor]”
06 “Calo Paste [ft. Léa Sen]”
07 “Slightly”
08 “Blame”
09 “Ten”
10 “Road Trip”
11 “Times”
12 “Broken Homes”
To mark the occasion, Romans-Hopcraft has been kind enough to release the lead single for his new project titled Blame/Ten. The release is paired with a striking video that was directed by Denisha Anderson and captures every detail of Wu-Lu’s youthful menace, and burning frustration.
In a statement, Wu-Lu spoke about the inspiration behind “Blame”, stating; “‘Blame’ is about a breakdown in communication between my inner voice and external voice, and a situation that arose which led me to end a relationship,”. Watch the new video down below:
Blame sees the deployment of a frenetic drum break that flows into the purposeful, chanted vocals of Romans- Hopcraft. With sections differentiated with a distant sound of slammed piano keys. All building to the gritty stylings of “Ten”. Once again, we see the rhythmic components take the helm, accompanied by a wall-shaking 808 bassline and the whirling sounds of delayed signals floating through the mix.
