At 17 years 3 months and 18 days old Eilish overtakes Joss Stone as the youngest ever female solo artist to top the album chart. Joss was just two months older than the US hit machine when she released her debut album “Mind Body and Soul” way back in 2004. With over 48,000 combined sales the singer beat “The Greatest Showman” album to the top spot.
The album, produce in it’s entirety by Billie and her Brother, has had massive critical acclaim and Billie seems to have been everywhere in 2019. The NME gave the album a five star review, saying “When We All Fall Asleep…’ is a memorable and game-changing debut record, with Billie’s disruptive streak front and centre. We’ll no doubt see the mainstream scrabbling to replicate it”
“When We All Fall Asleep…’, then, ticks all the boxes for a memorable and game-changing debut album. It’s enjoyable and familiar, but retains Billie’s disruptive streak. It’s a brave and resounding first step for an artist with bags of potential and over the next decade, you’ll no doubt see popular music scrabbling to try and replicate what this album does on every level. There’ll always be copycats, as Billie noted on her 2017 song of the same name, but none will be able to reach these heights any time soon.”

Eilish also recently discussed how she suffers from Tourette’s synonym in a recent interview with Ellen, saying ““It’s something I’ve lived with my whole life. Everybody in my family, all my friends, all the people closest to me know that I have it. It’s not anything different. I just never said anything because I didn’t want that to define who I was. I didn’t want it to be like, ‘Billie Eilish, the artist with Tourette’s is on ‘Ellen”
The most incredible thing for Billie however is that she’s currently making musical history, and she’s only 17 years old. Critics and DJ’s alike are expecting this album to just be the start of a great musical journey, and hopefully one that keeps her relevant for longer than the Super-Duper Joss Stone.
