Former Love Islander Wes Nelson has dropped new single and music video for ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ featuring rapper Yxng Bane, who is said to have written and recorded his part within a day of listening to the song. The catchy track was produced by Ayo Beatz and the collaboration features vibrant visuals alluding Tim Burton’s 90s horror movie ‘Edward Scissorhands’ – from Nelson trimming hedges to a woman mowing the lawn.
In a press release, Nelson said that he hopes to lift people’s spirits up with his new single and video: “I wanted people to sing ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ and just feel good about themselves, like 3 minutes of escapism! Especially with lockdowns, we’re all feeling a bit trapped and people are down, I just want people to get up and feel good.”
‘Nice To Meet Ya’ has received numerous positive reactions on social media from fans and friends alike, including support from former islanders Michael Griffiths, Joe Garratt and Jordan Hames from 2019, Cally Jane from 2015 and 2018 winner Jack Fincham.
Nelson first rose to fame when he appeared on ITV’s reality show Love Island 2018, finishing in fourth place with Megan Barton-Hanson. Since then, he has released the 2020 hit ‘See Nobody’ which reached an impressive position of number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, received over 38 million streams on Spotify and over 13 million views on YouTube.
As well as being a Muay Thai kickboxer, semi-professional footballer and nuclear system design engineer, the talented star said that he has used lockdown to pursue a music career, which he had always been passionate about: “I know it’s not going to happen overnight, but consistency is key. The best artists are the ones who stay true to themselves; authenticity is everything to me and that’s what will take me all the way.”
