Celebrated L.A. quartet Warpaint return with Radiate Like This, their first full length in six years, due on May 6th, fans have also been treated to their first taste of the new album in the form of new single “Champion”. You can listen to the new single, and see its accompanying video below. To celebrate the announcement the group have also announced a 6-night UK tour taking them through Scotland, Ireland, and England due shortly after the album’s release in May. Speaking of the single, the band explain, “Being a champion to oneself and for others. We are all in this together, life is too short not to strive for excellence in all that we do.”
It’s been 6 years since Warpaint last released new material, 2016’s Heads Up was received well by critics and fans alike, but 6 years is a long time. A lot has changed amongst the band. Warpaints four members (Emily Kokal, Jenny Lee Lindberg, Stella Mozgawa and Theresa Wayman) between them have had quite the list of errands to run, with babies, jobs, tours, solo albums, intercontinental and cross country moves all becoming priorities. So, coming back after all these years presents certain logistical challenges that almost kept them going their separate ways. Eventually, though, bandmates and friends of nearly 20 years simply couldn’t resist what had become so normal to them for so long. The added incentive that was the opportunity to work with legendary producer Sam Petts-Davies (possibly familiar for his work with Thom Yorke, Frank Ocean, Skullcrusher etc) only added to the drama when the group were forced to stop the sessions due to the arrival of COVID-19.
Labelled by the band as being “sharper and more focused” than any of their previous works the 10-track album highlights “the delicate interplay of four separate parts coalescing in motion, while somehow allowing each individual to shine a little brighter.”. See here for details on the album’s pre-order options, including limited-edition pink blossom vinyl colourways, and exclusive merch to be released in bundles with a copy of the album. You can also see here for more details on any of the dates on the group’s UK tour. But with the list of venues seeming particularly intimate, you may need to get in there early if you want to guarantee your placement at the shows.
