In what is a very surprising move, Live Nation have decided to cancel the upcoming “drive-in” tour due to, wait for it, Coronavirus fears. Who would have thought it eh? Given that it was due to start in a weeks time, full refunds will be given to those who bought tickets.
The full reason for the cancellation of the gigs has been given as being the new localised lockdowns being put into place will change the rules and advice for residents. The gigs would then makes the residents break the lockdown and potentially spread the virus quicker.
No doubt this will be very frustrating to those ticket holders as it’s not as if they had nobody’s playing, they had a line-up that consisted of The Streets, Kaiser Chiefs and Dizzee Rascal. The tour was due to be visiting 12 cities across the country which included London, Leeds and Bristol. You wonder if this will mark the end of the opening of the UK’s first socially distanced music venue.
It is with great regret that we have to announce that the organizers of the “Live At The Drive In” series have cancelled the whole series of events that were due to be held this Summer.
Fans will be automatically reimbursed via Ticketweb.

Unfortunately, it does feel like a massive step back from going back to normal. According to Chronicle Live, a spokesperson stated, “The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer. We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners, and of course you, the fans.”
He continued, explaining, “However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it hard become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence. We thank everyone for their support and eagerly await a time when we can watch live music together again.”
This would have marked the first major tour since COVID-19 and, in all honesty, it is probably for the best that they cancelled it as the virus is still very prominent in areas of England which is the reason for the tour being cancelled.
It does make you wonder how long until things are able to go back to as it was. If this was okay to go ahead only yesterday and today it was decided to cancel it, it shows us that anything can still change at the drop of a hat.
This does come at a similar time to Mike Skinner announcing an album livestream gig. At least is virtually immune to being affected by COVID so is unlikely to be cancelled. So hopefully we still have that to look forward too.
