U2 made their first appearance on the popular social media platform TikTok yesterday, November 1st with a preview of their new single “Your Song Saved My Life”. The new track is from the animation film ‘Sing 2’ and saw the band tease a 26-second clip of their new single which is set for release tomorrow, November 3rd.

U2 are an Irish rock band who were formed in 1976 with frontman Paul David Hewson KBE known musically as Bono, David Howell Evans (Aka The Edge/Lead guitar, Keyboards and backing vocalist), Adam Clayton (Bass guitar) and Larry Mullens Jnr (Drums and percussion). The band released their debut album Boy in 1980, followed by their album October and it was their third album War that provided them with their first UK number one album.
The band are known for popular albums The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby and Zoorapa. As well as popular singles “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Pride (In The Name of Love)”, “With Or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”
As well as the band’s musical contribution to the animation film sequel ‘Sing 2’ which also sees Matthew McConaughey reprise his animated role as Buster Moon, frontman Bono also makes his animation film debut in The movie as the character Clay Calloway a reclusive rockstar lion.
The band also announced their new arrival to TikTok by setting up their profile and are no strangers to the social media platform as they have received 249 million video views for their musical content. TikTok users can now use the group’s content to upload their video’s as they have now made their hit singles available on the social media platform.
The band will soon be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album Achtung Baby released on November 18th 1991, the album saw the band change musical direction and experiment with alternative rock. The popular single “One” was released from the album, the band are known for their philanthropy and released the single as a benefit single for AIDS Research organisations. Those organisations that were in the countries where the single was released received financial support from the group from sales of the single. The single was also featured on Mary J. Blige’s 2005 album The Breakthrough and saw the video release with Bono on vocals with the singer and the band who also feature in the music video.
The band’s new single “Your Song Saved My Life” features artwork by Bono via Universal Pictures, the band’s move to premiere their new single on TikTok see’s them follow in the footsteps of Abba, Taylor Swift and Led Zeppelin who have also recently joined the social media platform. The band’s last musical material was in the form of their 2017 album Songs of Experience which was the follow-up album to their 2014 album Songs of Innocence.
Frontman Bono and the Edge are currently recording new material in the wake of the Covid 19 Pandemic following Bono’s solo single release “Let Your Love Be Known” in March 20. The band are now set to release new music tomorrow, November 3rd and have been welcomed to TikTok by their Followers with their new single release “Your Song Saved My Life”. Sing 2 is set for release in the UK in January and in the US in December.
