Irish rock band U2 have announced that they will be streaming four of their classic concerts from the past four decades across March and April 2021. U2: The Virtual Road will be shown on the group’s YouTube channel. The concerts will feature enhanced visuals and remastered audio, and new merchandise will be released to mark the occasion.
U2 posted on Instagram: “From Wednesday: #TheVirtualRoad with @youtubemusic – 4 live stream events revisiting classic U2 shows from 4 decades with remastered audio & enhanced visuals, opening up with exclusive support performances from @dermotkennedy, @fontainesband, @carlamorrison & @feuchatterton. Head to YouTube.com/u2 for the details & tune in to the first show this Wednesday, U2 Go Home: Live From Slane Castle 2001 with support from @dermotkennedy.”
The group said of the virtual gigs: “Every show is memorable for us but these four particularly so… It’s exciting to be on the road again… Embracing all the wonder of the virtual road. And especially exciting to be joined by such a brilliant line-up of fellow travellers in Dermot Kennedy, Fontaines D.C., Carla Morrison and Feu! Chatterton.”
The first concert to be broadcast will be U2 Go Home: Live From Slane Castle, which took place in Ireland in 2001. Next up will be U2: Live At Red Rocks, Denver, Colorado, originally performed in the United States in 1983. Following that will be Popmart: Live From Mexico City, which occurred in Mexico in 1997. Finally, there will be iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris, which the band played in France in 2015.
