Faroese folk-metallers Týr have announced that they will release their seventh studio album, ‘Valkryja’ in September.
The quartet, who hail from the Faroe Islands – an archipelago north of Scotland under Danish sovereignty – formed in 1998 and have since established themselves as one of folk-metals most notable bands, blending Viking and Norse influences with Kvæði, the traditional balladry of their homeland.
‘Valkyrja‘, set for release on September 13th is a concept album following the story of a Viking warrior who leaves his earthly lover in pursuit of Freyja, a goddess associated with love, sexuality and fertility.
This will be their first release without founding member and drummer Kari Streymoy. Nile drummer George Kollias will replace Streymoy on this album, whether he will continue with Týr is unknown.
Týr will celebrate the release of ‘Valkyrja’ with a European tour, supported by Finntroll which will include five dates in the UK.
