GØGGS have announced a forthcoming new album, Pre Strike Sweep, set to be released on 28th September via In The Red Records. The California-based band features garage-rocker Ty Segall on lead guitar, accompanied by Charles Moothart on drums (who also plays with Segall in Fuzz), Michael Anderson on bass and Ex-Cult frontman Chris Shaw on vocals.
In support of the new album, the group yesterday released the title track as a single. Check it out below:
An unapologetic and in-your-face rocker, the track leaves little to the imagination with its walls of overdriven guitar, speeded-out drumming and shouted vocals. Taking clear influence from hardcore punk acts like The Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, melody and lyricism are substituted for unrelenting aggression and violent fuzz thrashing.
The germs of the band were formed in 2013, when Shaw and Ex-Cult opened for Ty Segall on his Slaughterhouse tour and the two agreed to start a band. ‘Plans were solidified’ when ‘thrash master’ Moothart joined on the drums, releasing their self-titled debut LP back in 2016.
The group also released the upcoming album’s track listing, which you can see below:
01. Killing Time
02. Pre Strike Sweep
03. Still Feeding
04. Space Rinse
05. CTA
06. Vanity
07. Disappear
08. Burned Entrance
09. Ruptured Line / Funeral Relief
10. Morning Reaper
The GØGGS project showcases the harder edge of Ty Segall, who has elsewhere dabbled in psychedelia, indie and even acoustic folk. Cutting his teeth on the Laguna Beach punk-garage circuit, Segall released his collaborative album with White Fence, Joy, just two weeks ago. Famously prolific, he has released sixteen albums and EPs in the last ten years as a solo artist alone. His last solo LP, Freedom’s Goblin, was released early this year to a warm reception by critics.
