Northern Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club are hitting the road next year as a follow up to the release of their new album Gameshow.
The band will be playing shows around the UK in January and February 2017. They will be playing O2 Academies in Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle and Bristol, alongside stops at Southampton’s O2 Guildhall, Cambridge’s Corn Exchange and Manchester’s O2 Apollo, with a final performance at London’s Alexandra Palace on February 10.
Speaking to the BBC before their headline set on the NME/Radio 1 stage at Leeds Festival, singer Alex Trimble said: “We took a break at the start of 2014. That was time to get out of what we’ve been in for the last six years and reassess. The way we looked at each other and the world has completely changed, so this album felt like a fresh start.
“We’re reaping the rewards now in terms of how much effort we put in to the band in the early days. We slogged out in the van and were away for 300 days out of the year. It sticks with people so much more if they went to see you in their student union or their local pub and then came back to see you at an O2 Academy or something.”
The band formed in 2007 and have had previous success with albums Tourist History (2009) and Beacon (2011). Gameshow is out on October 14 and was made with REM/Bloc Party producer Jacknife Lee. The album features the singles ‘Are We Ready? (Wreck)’ and Bad Decisions.
The gig at Alexandra Palace will be their first arena show since they headlined London’s O2 in 2013. They were due to headline at Latitude Festival that summer, but were replaced last minute by Lily Allen.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 30 September. Tour dates for the shows are below:
