American singer TORRES, real name Mackenzie Scott, announced that her new album ‘Thirstier’ will be out on 30th July via Merge Records. She also announced tour dates and unveiled the album’s first single and music video ‘Don’t Go Puttin Wishes in My Head’, the second track in ‘Thirstier’.
‘Thirstier’ was recorded in 2020 at Middle Farm Studios in South Devon. She co-produced the album with Rob Ellis and Peter Miles. The album is a collection of ten love songs – not limited to romantic love, but also platonic, familial, spiritual, and so on. It can be pre-ordered here.
Speaking of the new album, Scott said in a press release: “I’ve been conjuring this deep, deep joy that I honestly didn’t feel for most of my life. I feel like a rock within myself. And I’ve started to feel that I have what it takes to help other people conjure their joy, too. I wanted to channel my intensity into something that felt positive and constructive, as opposed to being intense in a destructive or eviscerating way. I love the idea that intensity can actually be something life-saving or something joyous.”
TORRES’ debut album ‘Torres’ was released in 2013. Since then, she has released ‘Sprinter’ in 2015, ‘Three Futures’ in 2017 and ‘Silver Tongue’ in 2020, prior to ‘Thirstier’ coming out later this year. Her albums have been met with positive reviews so far, with DIY Mag saying that ‘Three Futures’ is “sometimes still a challenging listen, it’s easy to indulge in.” and NME saying that “it’s hard to imagine anyone not being won over by an album [Silver Tongue] that opens it heart as much as this.”
