Toothless has announced the release date and tracklist for his debut album, ‘The Pace Of The Passing’, as well as releasing a new single ‘Sisyphus’.
Toothless is the solo project of Bombay Bicycle Cub’s bassist Ed Nash. Speaking to NME, Nash said of his inspiration, ‘No one really expects the bass player to do anything. know I can play music and write songs. But I’ve got to put my money where my mouth is and step up. This isn’t just a throwaway side project, I plan to tour and I’m already thinking about a second album. I really want it to be my main thing. My career for the foreseeable future.’ He also commented on the stresses of going it alone, describing it as one of ‘the scariest things’ he’s ever done. ‘People are finally listening to the music I’ve written and it’s terrifying. It’s so easy for people to just dismiss you.’
According to iTunes the album will be released on January 27th, although some music publications feature earlier release dates, possibly as soon as the 17th. It will feature already released ‘Palm’s Backside’ and ‘The Sirens’ in addition to this latest single and will include contributions from Tom Fleming of Wild Beasts, Marika Hackman, Liz Lawrence and The Staves. The full tracklist for the album will be as follows:
- Charon
- Sisyphus
- Palm’s Backside (Feat. Marika Hackman)
- Alright Alright Alright

- Party For Two (Feat. Liz Lawrence)
- You Thought I Was Your Friend (I Want To Hurt You)

Speaking specifically about new track ‘Sisyphus’ Nash said in a statement via Clash, ‘Sisyphus’ is a Greek myth about a man whose punishment is to roll a boulder up a hill every day only for it to roll back down. I wanted to write a song with this story as the basis, but for it to be about a relationship between two people, not an individual’s daily struggle. This song is about always being there for someone no matter how many times they mess up, and no matter how inevitable it is that they will do it again.’ He also added in an interview with Noisey that, ‘’Sisyphus’ was the last song that I recorded for ‘The Pace Of The Passing’ and it very nearly didn’t make the cut. For about a year it existed as a terrible J-pop style recording that I loved but everyone else absolutely hated. After months of persuasion, I recorded this version. Am very pleased they persisted!’ You can check out the results of this persistence below:
