London based singer-songwriter Tom Rosenthal has shared his third release of 2020 with new single ‘Hope’, released on 24th April. With its catchy hooks and piano accompaniment, the timing is perfect as countries around the world are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Written and performed solely by Rosenthal, ‘Hope’ was also released via his own record label Tinpot Records and has gained over 1,000 streams on Spotify in only a few days. Not only is this incredible artist helping fans in isolation, but all proceeds from the song will be donated to The International Red Cross to help vulnerable communities around the world.
I’ve got a new song coming out at midnight. The word ‘Hope’ is sung a lot in it. Loads in fact. 23 times. If you sing something enough then maybe you start to feel it. See you on the other side pic.twitter.com/sLQhgo0y9Y

When the song came out, he wrote a message to fans on his social media pages, discussing the song and the current situation. The post reads, “What we’re all currently going through feels like a sort of trauma, more pronounced for some than others, and we all have our ways of dealing with sudden changes, responding and resisting in the ways we can.” It continues, “I find myself wanting to go on the offensive, to feel like I’m fighting back in some way. I’ve chosen to do this with a song and video.”
For his music video, Rosenthal asked fans to send in videos of themselves holding up signs with the word ‘HOPE’ written on them. In total, he received over two thousand submissions and created a beautiful video that currently has over 72,000 views on YouTube.
Two previous songs have been put out this year by the singer-songwriter: ‘If We All Die Tomorrow’ and ‘157’. Surprisingly, however, one of his most popular songs at the moment is a release from 2018 called ‘Hugging You’ featuring Billie Marten. The song has reached almost 3 million plays on Spotify.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Rosenthal’s tour was cut off as he was about to begin shows in Scandinavia and Poland. Luckily, he was able to reschedule them for later this year, and he will start touring again from August 2020. Have a look at the full tour dates on his official website. Despite this cancellation, Tom Rosenthal has chosen to spend his time writing songs to help people in need during this difficult time. He spoke to Cathy Fitzgerald of BBC Radio 4 for her ‘Life on Lockdown’ show and performed one of his songs.
So recently I’ve been writing songs for people upon request and today I wrote one for 90 year old Patricia, a former nurse, struggling a bit with isolation. Here is her reaction to the song… pic.twitter.com/uHD1YG3hWC
