Timber Festival, which takes place at Feanedoc, on the Leicestershire and Derbyshire border, is set to still go ahead despite the uncertainty of the COVID 19 situation in the UK. The enchanting festival will take place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of July 2021 and offers a brilliant array of music, creativity and writing.

Amongst the line up of Timber Festival is Field Music, Gruff Rhys, Sam Lee, Snapped Ankles and many more. As well as musical entertainment the festival, which takes place in a forest in the making, prizes itself on celebrating the trees and forests. It encourages ticket holders to contemplate and re-examine their own relationship with the natural world and the beauty of it which surrounds them at Feanedoc. It is for this reason that Feanedoc was chosen – “it sits in the heart of the National Forest and helps tell the story of this bold environmental project”.
On Timber’s website, audiences are met with the statement “Gather round all nature lovers, daydreamers, big thinkers. Step into an incredible weekend festival of celebration, debate and reflection in the National Forest. Timber invites you to stand up and be counted as we rethink our relationship with trees and forests“.
This July will be the 3rd edition of the festival, which is going ahead under the current step 3 guidelines, close consultation with the local authority safety advisory group as well as the director of public health. The large location means that a smaller scaled audience can enjoy the festival safely and it can be ensured that the three days abide by the COVID 19 restrictions.
That Timber Festival can still go ahead is exciting and important, especially because of the environmental message it seeks to project. The website reminds festival-goers that “activists and makers will invite you to join them in a joyous celebration of nature“.
Rowan Cannon and Sarah Bird, who are directors of Wild Rumpus, and partners with the National Forest Company in creating Timber Festival, commented:
“A riot of creativity, Timber Festival’s programming aims to be the best! Packed full of great ideas, we’re ready to entertain and engage the most energetic and curious minds. We aim to deliver life affirming programming that explores our relationship with the natural world, from wild treetop adventures and bush-craft activities to a packed programme of music, theatre and dance. After a year of lock down, we all want to get together with our family and friends and create great new memories. Timber promises to be a magical, fabulous fun-packed weekend and we can not wait…We hope that Timber 2021 will provide the sense of escapism, connection and community that we are all longing for right now!”
