UK indie darlings the xx have released the final part of their ‘Night + Day’ video series, which documented the band organising a residency of the same name, as well as screenings, pop-up shops, radio broadcasts, and more, over the course of a week from their base in South London.
The documentary also features interviews with band members Romy Madley-Croft and Oliver Sims, as they discuss a wide range of subjects, including organising a festival, the importance of radio, and community outreach, amongst other things. The video culminates with a special performance of the xx’s ‘On Hold’, from their most recent album I See You, and was shot during one of the nights of their current residency at the O2 Academy in Brixton. You can watch the video below.
The residency also included guest performances, with a particular highlight being the appearance of Cat Power member Chan Marshall inviting Madley Croft onstage to perform a duet of of Marshall’s song ‘Maybe Not.’ The residency also featured star-studded performances from the likes of Sampha, Kelela, Savages’ Jehnny Beth, Floating Points, Joy Orbison, and Robyn, who performed her track ‘With Every Heartbeat’ onstage with the band too.
Following the conclusion of the ‘Night + Day’ residency, the xx will be heading out on tour in North America, to promote the release of I See You, which was released in January, to much acclaim, before heading back to these shores in time for July’s Glastonbury festival, which they were confirmed for at the end of march.
