Liverpool based indie legends The Wombats have just released their new single ‘Lemon To A Knife Fight’, and it’s the first single off their new album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life which is due to land on February 09.
After a two-year absence, the trio dropped the banger on Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1 last night (07/11/2017) as the Hottest Record in the World.
The Wombats is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew Murphy, drummer Dan Haggis, and bassist Tord Overland Knudsen. When asked about the track by Annie Mac, Frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy says that “the song came around after my wife and I had a huge argument on Mulholland Drive. I’d been watching tons of David Lynch too, the song just kind of fell out of me.”
Murph also told Triple J “I was having an argument with my now wife and she basically just handed me my own arse on a plate. I never win an argument with her, so that’s kind of what the song is about.” He also explained “The title is a metaphor for kind of like going into a situation knowing that you’re absolutely 100% gonna lose.”
