The Wombats have announced an ‘All The Hits’ show at London’s O2 Arena next spring.
The Liverpool band’s performance at the O2 Arena will be their first in London since they played Wembley Arena back in February 2019. The show, taking place on 15 April 2022, is set to showcase tracks from across The Wombats near two-decade-long career on the music scene.
Speaking in a recent interview with NME, The Wombats frontman, Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, said on their upcoming arena show: “We’re gonna have to make sure it’s very special and it’s going to be an amazing night. It’s a great achievement, but one that feels deserved.” He continued: “At Wembley we flew our tour manager off the stage in a Wombat suit, so we’ll have to find a way to outdo that.”
The arena announcement comes just a week after the three-man band dropped their latest single, “Method To The Madness,” which is their first release since their 2018 album “Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life.” Murph said of the track: “Method To The Madness is about trying to find patterns within chaos and ultimately giving up, and letting go. Some of the lyrics are lifted from my own honeymoon experience – walking around European cities, being amongst tourists whilst simultaneously being one myself, and generally blagging it with last minute hotel bookings. Feeling excitement but still being fully aware that nothing much has changed.”
The indie trio has a strong festival season ahead, performing on the main stage west at Reading and Leeds Festival this August and at Victoria Park, Warrington’s Neighbourhood Weekender. The band celebrated the tenth anniversary of their second studio album, “This Modern Glitch”, last month, with an extended edition of the album, which included remixes and demos.
Meanwhile, a remix of their 2015 track “Greek Tragedy” has become a TikTok sensation, racking up a feature in over 600,000 videos and gaining over 30 million streams. Whilst there is yet to be confirmation of a fifth studio album from The Wombats, according to a press release they have been working on “some of the most captivating, inventive and forward-thinking music of their career.”
Tickets for The Wombats ‘All The Hits’ concert at the O2 Arena, London go on sale 11 June 2021 at 9am.
