UK rock legends The Who have announced the cancellation of their UK and Ireland tour as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The band were scheduled to play 10 arena shows this March, including dates at London’s Wembley SSE Arena, Glasgow’s SSE Hydro and the 3 Arena in Dublin. The month-long jaunt was originally set to take place in March 2020 as the European leg of the ‘Moving On!’ world tour, which had commenced in America in 2019, but the dates were postponed to March 2021 due to complications engendered by the pandemic. This time, however, the group have announced a full cancellation of the tour.

In a statement, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend said: “We are very sorry that we have to cancel our planned March 2021 UK and Ireland shows. Please excuse the delay but we wanted to wait as long as possible to see if we could indeed play them. However, as you can see the current situation makes this impossible. Thanks for all your wonderful support and we hope to see you in the future when conditions allow.”
The Who join a number of other artists who have been forced to cancel or postpone tours in recent weeks. Today Yungblud announced the postponement of his ‘Occupy the UK’ tour as a result of ongoing coronavirus concerns, while Slowthai – having released his new album last week – recently announced an intimate 2021 tour small UK venues in the hope of eased restrictions later in the year. The UK government are yet to formally announce any easing of restrictions that would permit music events taking place.
