
In a recent survey from PRS, 2,000 Brits named their top 10 love songs. At the top of the list was ‘All Of Me’ by John Legend, closely followed by Whitney Houston’s power ballad ‘I Will Always Love You’.

Written by John Legend for his then-fiancée, now wife, Chrissy Teigen, ‘All Of Me’ is a piano and vocal ballad that has become a popular choice for weddings and romantic occasions. It shot to number one on the Billboard 200, and number two on the UK Singles Chart.
The UK’s top 10 love songs have an average BPM of 111. This shows that songs with faster tempos may boost your romantic mood.
The participants were asked which genres they found to be the most romantic – around a quarter (24%) chose chill-out music, followed closely by pop (21%) and RnB (20%). Lower in the romantic rankings were hip hop (2%), heavy metal (1%) and house music (0.7%).
In 2021, the official UK Charts Company compiled their data to make a list of the ‘Best-selling Love Songs of All-Time’, based on both physical sales and downloads. At the top of the list was “Love Is All Around” by Scottish soft-rockers, Wet Wet Wet. Originally written and performed by the Troggs, the song was covered by Wet Wet Wet for the soundtrack of the film Four Weddings and A Funeral. The tune managed to sell 1.91 million copies and spent 15 weeks at No.1.
Following closely was ‘Unchained Melody’ by Robson and Jerome. Originally written as a theme for the film Unchained, it has since been recorded in over 1,500 recordings by more than 670 artists. The Robson and Jerome version became the best-selling single of 1995 in the UK, also becoming Simon Cowell’s first big hit after he signed the two popstars. Another cover version by Gareth Gates made it onto the best-sellers list.
