“It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce that Tony Lewis has unexpectedly passed away” the statement that fans were met with on Lewis’ website. It is clear how many people still fondly listen and follow Lewis and The Outfield as they mourn the loss as another prominent artist passes, lost to this year. The statement continues “He loved his fans dearly and enjoyed every opportunity he had when meeting all of you.” His family has asked for respect and privacy during this tragic time.
Before The Outfields, Lewis and his fellow bandmates, John Spinks and Alan Jackmen were known as Sirius B a power-pop band. but due to the punk scene blowing up to the massive scene it was made it hard for Sirius B to make it “We became the right band at the wrong time, so we just went our separate ways for a few years“
Years past and the trio returned now under the name The Baseball Boys and quickly signed with Columbia/CBS who is known for artists like Pink Floyd, Adele, Harry Styles, and David Bowie. Later keeping with the Baseball theme they later renamed The Outfield. Still struggling to gain traction in the UK they managed to make it big in the US with a single that is still recognized and remembered to this day by fans and nonfans alike.
‘Your Love’ featured heavily on MTV and later went flying up to the top 10 in the states gaining critical acclaim for The Outfields and is still listened to this day with over 277,724,218! ‘Your Love‘ currently stands over 200,000,000 more streams than The Outfield’s next most streamed song on Spotify. Katie Perry covered ‘Your Love’ with her ‘Using Your Love’ gave the original more publicity.
The shock fans felt after Lewis’ passing was painful as earlier this year in July (09/07/2020) fans rejoiced when The Outfield released ‘The Baseball Boys: Early Demos and Rare Tracks’. The release of the ‘Early Demos and Rare Tracks‘ got fans very excited, long time fans fell in love at the chance to see some of the bands old unseen and unheard songs and works.
Tony Lewis was a talented musician, was loved by friends, family, and fans alike. His music will be remembered through time much like Lewis will be.
