The Lost Brothers have unveiled their second track, along with the video, from their Christmas mini-album, The Lost Brothers ‘Keep Christmas In The Heart’. The Lost Brothers have dropped the song, ‘Seven Days Before Christmas’, along with a video, as they wind-up their extensive winter tour.
The Lost Brothers, consist of Ireland-born Oisin Leech, from Meath and Mark McCausland, from Omagh. ‘Seven Days Before Christmas’ is a brand new song written and recorded by The Lost Brothers. It’s reminiscent of a bluesy-folk tune, and it features a string arrangement by Steve Wickham of The Waterboys and brass by Paul Brainard (The Eels, M Ward), while also featuring members of O Emperor.
Speaking about the song, Leech said: “The song is an attempt at a gothic Christmas romance. It’s about two pals of ours who celebrate their engagement every Christmas…but it very nearly didn’t happen. Christmas can be complicated.”
The video for ‘Seven Days Before Christmas’ is directed by Zoe Genders and Dan Conway, who have recently worked on projects with the likes of Bjork and Gomez.
Speaking about the video, for ‘Seven Days of Christmas’, Zoe Genders said: “We went for a 50’s/60’s Bing Crosby TV Show vibe with added Christmas!”
The latest song to be released is featured on the new mini-album ‘Keep Christmas In The Heart’, released a couple of weeks ago, ahead of The Lost Brothers Christmas Tour, which continues until the 23rd of December 2019. Tickets can be purchased here.
The Lost Brothers will play Cork tomorrow (December 21), for Live At St Luke’s. It will be a full band show with members of O Emperor and The Waterboys. They will conclude their seven-date tour, in Dublin, on the 23rd of December 2018. However, the duo have announce another gig at the Hammersmith Irish Cultural Centre, in London, on the 25th of January 2019. Tickets can be purchased here.
Leech and McCausland haven’t always been a duo, in another life both had been members in major label rock acts, ‘The 747’s’ and ‘The Basement’ respectively. The two Irish singers/songwriters and musicians first met in 2007 after their bands had slowly slipped off the radar.
“We both found ourselves at house parties in Liverpool and discovered that we had the same musical tastes. We started writing songs together for fun – no strategies, no game plan,” says Leech.
The musicians’ instinctive gravitational pull presented them with the ‘Lost Brothers’ tag, but the name quickly stuck. They released their debut album ‘Trails Of The Lonely’, in 2008, and was produced in Portland, Oregon, by Mike Coykendall. The album included collaborations with the likes of M Ward, She & Him, Richmond Fontaine, Beth Orton, Bright Eyes), with Coykendall setting the duo on their singular path.
Since then the duo have released a further four albums; ‘So Long John Fante’, 2011; ‘The Passing Of The Night’, 2012; ‘New Songs Of Dawn And Dust’, 2014; and finally their fifth and most recent album ‘Halfway Towards A Healing’.
