Get your train tickets to the seaside booked, as Brighton’s favoured four-day day festival is back with their first in-person event since 2019. The Great Escape Festival (TGE) that is being held 11th-14th May is “the festival for new music, showcasing 500 emerging artists from all over the world in 30+ walkable venues across the city and a pop-up festival site on Brighton Beach. It’s the first place to discover your new favourite artist and see them in an intimate setting before they go on to headline major festival stages”. The festival will also be filled with various individuals from the music industry who are on the look out for the next big act. In addition to the performers, the festival will also hold conferences featuring knowledgeable panels, topical debates, keynote speakers, networking opportunities and a packed programme of sessions presented by CMU.
The first of the TGE and CMU talks kick off at 10am today. The CMU have published their programme for the week, which is going to revolve around “MUSIC+EDUCATION puts the spotlight on the work of CMU’s Pathways Into Music Foundation, which seeks to better connect all the many strands of music education and all the many strands of the music industry”. These talks will take place at Jurys Inn Waterfront from 10.00am-5.00pm today. It’s open to anyone who is attending The Great Escape, as well as those who purchase individual tickets for the programme. Tickets are still available for the festival and the conferences, and can be bought here.
There is a free opening party taking place today at Jubilee Square today from 4.30pm-11pm.

In an interview with MusicWeek, Adam Ryan, who is head of the music at The Great Escape stated, “TGE represents a coming together of the whole music community. We work with over 50 partners across the weekend tying together export offices, agencies, record labels, promoters, and media partners and sponsors. A lot of people feed into the ideas and bookings. Another reason the event has lasted so long is because it holds a space that’s desperately needed: it’s a place to support new music, artists and the future live industry leaders. Alongside the live shows and beers we run workshops, panels and talks aimed at inspiring people and shining a light on hidden pathways into the music sector. There just isn’t a gathering of the live industry like it here in the UK that brings the global community together – we’re working with people from Chile to China. TGE brings together the global music community to Brighton for three days and it’s a wonderful time of year to be down by the coast and check in with people from all over the world, all while watching some amazing acts.”
Steve Lamacq from BBC Radio 6 Music, described the festival as “The Cannes of the music world”. With all the week has to offer, this festival is definitely not one to miss.
