The first wave of acts have been announced for Bestival 2016, with headliners including The Cure, Hot Chip and Major Lazer being confirmed.
The Cure frontman Rober Smith expressed his excitement in playing the festival, saying: “We are very very happy to be back at our favourite festival; we can’t wait to play a special set to show the future IS what it used to be.”
Meanwhile Major Lazer said in a statement “We started at Bestival five years ago, and it was one of our favourite shows to date. Feels like home for us – rugged and real music fans. Since then we finally impacted in England, and we can’t wait to do our new show and play all the records for the fans at one of the best festivals in the world.”
The theme of this years festival was also announced, with this year being all about the future. Organiser Rob de Bank said in a statement: “So, here we go again, but this time we’re going far … far away … into the future. Prepare yourselves for a Bestival unlike any other with futuristic new stages, and as ever it’s a broad church of music from every decade and every genre.”
A host of other acts were announced too, including Skepta, Animal Collective, Bastille and Damien Marley among many more. Wolf Alice will also be making their Bestival debut; meanwhile Craig David will be bringing his TS5 show to the festival and Hospital Records will be bringing some of the finest Drum & Bass acts along too.
Bestival 2016 will take place on 8-11 September on the Isle of Wight, with many more acts still to be announced before then, including another headliner. You can check out the first poster for the festival below:
