London four-piece The Big Moon have released a video for their track, ‘Formidable’, as well as announcing a UK Tour for 2017.
Formidable is a song the band have had in the bank for some time. They made it part of their live set before eventually releasing it as a single earlier this month. Speaking to DIY, Jules Jackson said that the track is, ‘one of our favourite songs to play, and it’s also one of my favourite songs that I’ve written.’ She added, ‘Sometimes when you write things, the lyrics might clash with the music; one might be happy, while the other’s sad. But I love it when it all ties together. The song is about being strong for someone who’s going through a hard time, and it’s saying ‘I’m here, you can talk to me, I’ll be strong for you, you don’t have to hold it inside. The music feels like that. It feels big and chesty, like someone scooping you up in their arms.’
The band also explained, via Clash, their inspiration for the new video; ”Formidable’ is a song that’s important to us all and it felt like for once, it wasn’t appropriate to make a mega fun, LOLZ video. That said, we didn’t want to make a super earnest band video either. We had a day off in between cities on our autumn tour so we drove to the beautiful Peak District and smashed out the song in the back of the van. It’s a van that we’ve spent more time in than our own beds over the last year. The wonderful Louis Bhose was once again the creative visionary at the helm of this video. We hope you like it.’ You can check out the video, which, true to The Big Moon’s word, prominently features a van, below and find out if you do:
The news comes after the group confirmed the forthcoming release of their debut album, ‘Love In The 4th Dimension’, earlier this month. The album, which was co-produced by Juliette Jackson, of The Big Moon, and Catherine Marks, who has previously worked with artists including The Killers, Foals and Wolf Alice, will be released on 7th April on Fiction Records. The album will include ‘Formidable’, which now has a video obviously, as well as previously released singles, ‘Sucker’, ‘Cupid’ and ‘The Road.’
