The 1975 intend to play future music festivals with gender-balanced line-ups. This follows criticisms at the lack of female and non-binary performers for the Reading & Leeds Festival 2020.
Frontman Matty Healy described headlining act Rage Against The Machine as a “dope booking”, in response to journalist Laura Snapes.
However, Healy agreed with Snapes, declaring “you are so right”, regarding her views on the sparsity of non-male representation within the festival line-up.
Ok makes sense cos you are so right, but rage is a dope booking!!!

Snapes followed up with a request to Healy, asking him to “add a condition to your rider that says you’ll only play festivals that commit to X% (ideally 50%!) acts that include women and non binary performers,”
Healy promptly replied: “Take this as me signing this contract – I have agreed to some festivals already that may not adhere to this and I would never let fans down who already have tickets.”
“But from now I will and believe this is how male artist can be true allies.”

The 1975 were recently confirmed as headliners for the Boardmasters 2020 festival. Grime icon Skepta and American rockers Kings Of Leon will be headlining. The festival runs from August 5-9 at Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay in Newquay, Cornwall.
Plus, this year marks the festival’s 40th anniversary. With Skepta on Friday, Kings Of Leon hitting the stage Saturday, The 1975 will be rounding off the proceedings on Sunday.
Other acts scheduled for the Cornwall festival include Little Simz, Dizzee Rascal, Mura Masa, Sam Fender, and The Kooks. Indie acts Mabel and Loyle Carner are also billed.
Later on, Healy posted another tweet, this time saying: “I’m sure my agents are having kittens right now but times up man people need to act and not chat thanks for the kick up the arse snapes you’re making a difference.”
