Numerous UK bands and artists will be taking part in a series of streams for Teenage Cancer Trust. The organisation has launched a YouTube channel which will feature exclusive live performances to raise money during this difficult time.
The channel is called Teenage Cancer Trust Unseen, and will kick off on 8th October with Ed Sheeran’s show. Following this will be gigs from Muse, Rudimental, Paul McCartney, The Who, The Cure, Paul Weller, Stereophonics, Pulp, Noel Gallagher, and Them Crooked Vultures. All the footage was filmed over previous years at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.
The Who’s Roger Daltrey, who is a patron of the trust, is one of the main drivers behind this event, and a section of his set with the band will be shared on 17th October at 8pm BST. While the channel and content is free to view for anyone, fans are highly encouraged to donate to the cause, as many young cancer patients are unable to receive the vital support they require during Covid-19.
Furthermore, The Cure will not only be sharing a song or two, but their entire gig from 2014 and the guitar played by frontman Robert Smith on the night. To win, fans must pay £5 to enter into the raffle on the Teenage Cancer Trust website. Though there can only be one winner, runners up will win a signed poster of the band.
This year has been challenging for many, but since live music has been paused, as well as other fundraising events, large amounts of funds have been lost from charities like this one. Many of the acts have put out messages to their followers asking for help to support the organisation; The Who posted, “We’re delighted to be able to support Teenage Cancer Trust.”
