Fondly remembered as one of the 90s most fun and uplifting songs, from the second it was released ‘Alright’ found its way into Britpop folklore. Now, 25 years later, Supergrass have revisited the iconic song in releasing an updated version of the video and announce the releasing of a new rarities EP. They have also announced that a fan made video will also be released.
The EP is entitled ‘Alright/ Time 25’ which features live versions of songs from as far back as 1997 with the majority of the recordings being from the early noughties and 2010s. Since the long wait for a release we have now been blessed with two in the space of 2020 alone. Lockdown must have got the band rooting through old CDs and cassette tapes. (cassette tapes?)
Though they have had a longer break in recent times, Supergrass have always found themselves in the public memory with ‘Alright’ still being played religiously. But, at one point, Supergrass were slated to be the next big thing. Their debut album ‘I Should Coco’ being the best-selling debut record since an album called ‘Please Please Me’ from an unknown Liverpool outfit called The Beatles.
Of late though, the band have been finding it harder with them only just reforming in 2019 after years of a highly publicised (and entertaining) feud split them up. Reading about the fighting within the band is highly entertaining so I would recommend looking it up. But many fans had resigned to the fact that they would never get back together, so this is a positive first step in the race for new music. (Though, I fear, it is highly unlikely.)

The feeling about the return of Supergrass is nicely echoed by the feel of their most popular song. It is infectiously happy and upbeat to endemic levels. It is always a good way to start your day as it can barely ever fail to pick you up. Though the title does quite understate the feelings about the reunion it is slightly better than just ‘Alright’.
