Stormzy has released his new single, ‘Own It’, featuring Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran. The single gives a sample of what is to come from Stormzy’s new album, ‘Heavy Is The Head’. The single was released on Friday 21. The album is out on December 13. The title of the new track is a lyric sampled from ‘Crown’.
His second album is made up of sixteen tracks, with features from Headie One and H.E.R, to name a couple. It’ll feature his most recent releases, ‘Sounds of the Skeng’, ‘Crown’, and his number one single ‘Vossi Bop’. You can listen to the new track through the Youtube link below.
Stormzy produced an Instagram post backing Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, urging all people to vote ahead of the General Election. He described Boris Johnson as a ‘sinister man’, but of Corbyn, praised him, saying, “And for me, he is the first man in a position of power who is committed to giving the power back to the people and helping those who need a helping hand from the government the most.”
Of Johnson, Stormzy said, “I also believe it is criminally dangerous to give the most powerful role in the country to a man who has said that the sight of a ‘bunch of black kids’ makes him ‘turn a hair’, compared women in burqas to letterboxes and referred to black people as ‘picaninnies’ with ‘watermelon smiles’.”
Recently, Stormzy was among the ‘Artist & Management Awards’ winners. The rapper and his manager, Tobe Onwuka, as well as entire team at #Merky took home the ‘Team Achievement Award’ for their contributions to British music and culture.
The #merky team is made up of a record label, music management, book publishing, a brand of clothing and scholarship scheme. Stormzy declared, “my team is everything”, calling them a “family” and a “powerhouse.”
Nile Rodgers scooped up the career-best award for Artists’ Artist, presented the award by Blur’s Alex James and FAC’s Artist In Residence, David Rowntree.
