After the success of the previous reissue of the 1992 debut album ‘Lazer Guided Melodies’, space rock band Spiritualized are back continuing the repressings of the bands first four album run. The album ‘Pure Phase’, originally recorded at Moles Studio in Bath is the next album to receive the exclusive vinyl treatment, with copies being made available for a 11th June release.
With Pure Phase the band made roster changes, expanding to include bassist Sean Cook and string arrangements by the Balanescu Quartet. Speaking on the record sounding like no other, lead Jason Pierce says “You can’t really compare this record to any other because of how we mixed it; in such an ‘incorrect’ way. We mixed the tracks twice but I couldn’t decide which one I liked better so we said “let’s have them both”. Both of them were on tape so we spent hours cutting them into usable sections.”
The release is on Fat Possum Records and has been named the second stage of a four part series, with the other albums to come being the acclaimed ‘Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’ from 1997 and the 2001 release ‘Let It Come Down’. The albums are releasing one by one on their website, where they state a “series of 180g double albums mastered by Alchemy Mastering, presented in a gatefold jacket with reworked green artwork by Mark Farrow and available in both a standard black vinyl pressing and limited edition glow-in-the-dark vinyl.”
Along with physical copies, there is currently Pure Phase merchandise available to pre-order on the Spiritualized store based off vintage designs from the band. Items include long and short sleeve t-shirts, mugs and an enamel badge. Whilst the release date awaits, listen to the acclaimed second album by the Warwickshire band on streaming below.
