Record label Solid Grooves announced their return event ‘Groove Island,’ taking place this July. Grooves Island will be held on Three Mill Island in East London and will be a one-off open-air experience.
The record label announced their summer return event with a competition on their Instagram page. They wrote: “Summer 21′ – GROOVES ISLAND. Tag 2 mates and SIGN UP to win VIP passes.” After previously gaining excitement on social media by teasing that “something is coming,’ days earlier.
Recently announcing that many of the Grooves gang, including Michael Bibi, Pawsa and Dennis Cruz, will be performing at the Parklife Festival, the summer buzz for the Solid Grooves label has taken off, with many ‘Groovers’ announcing their excitement on Twitter.
Solid Grooves events were largely postponed throughout 2020, with many of the UK based events ultimately cancelled. This includes the Solid Grooves 8th-anniversary party, which was due to be held at Studio 338 and Fabric on a back-to-back and night-to-day event lasting 24 hours.
Last April, after the UK entered the first set of Lockdown measures, they wrote on social media: “We’re currently working on a replacement date with the venues and the artists.” However, due to the indefinite closure of the venues, the event was ultimately cancelled. Taking to Twitter last October, the record label wrote: “You better believe it. When we’re out of this we’ll throw the party of all parties.”
Solid Grooves have remained on the house scene throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, hosting a variety of live-stream events, with audiences in the thousands mirroring their large international fan base. The live-streams included a 12-hour long virtual stream featuring all the house favourites at Solid Grooves.
Solid Grooves was founded in 2015 by DJ’s Pawsa and Michael Bibi, with the mission statement being: “let the music do the talking.” In the label’s early days, they gained support from big-names on the house DJ scene, including Chicago DJ Green Velvet. The close-knit group of core artists has since gained global traction and secured residencies at esteemed clubs worldwide, including the famous Sankey’s Ibiza. Co-founder Pawsa, speaking with Beatport, jokingly said had he not chosen a music career, he would have moved to Botswana to become a big cat expert on a wildlife reserve.
Three Mills Island, the location for the Solid Grooves return event, is situated between the London Borough of Newham and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and as its name suggests: boasts three 18th century mills. However, it is understood that ‘Grooves Island’ will take place on the Three Mills Island Green, situated in Bromley-by-Bow adjacent to the Three Mills.
Tickets for ‘Grooves Island’ will be released by pre-sale and main sale. Pre-sale tickets are accessible by signing up here and will go on sale Friday 26th March 2021 at 12 pm, and the remaining main sale tickets will go on sale Monday 29th 2021 at 12 pm via Resident Advisor. The event will take place on 31st July 2021.
