Genre-bending duo Sofi Tukker have dropped their latest single “Kakee”, the track is the latest preview for their upcoming album Wet Tennis. The press release provides the following description for the new single, “Clocking in under two minutes, “Kakee” is a thrilling oxytocin rush with a giant hook and a juggernaut beat that is like SOFI TUKKER concentrate. All of the things that made the world fall in love with the group are turned up to eleven. ”
Bandmembers Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern share the origins behind their latest single, “Kakee, which means persimmon in Portuguese and in many other languages, is a song, quite literally, about persimmons. Soph had been talking about how obsessed she is with persimmons for a long time and so she and Chacal (the Brazilian poet we have made a lot of songs with) wrote a poem about them. The lyrics literally translate to “I don’t go by car or by foot. I go by persimmon…. I’m not Sophie, I’m persimmon…. The juice of the persimmon is on my nose and on my chest, so sexy.” We started it as a techno track and then with the guitar it really took a turn. No idea what genre this is. We just know that we love it. ”
The new track was released with a accompanying tropical themed music video, the colourful visuals of fun fashion and electric style provide a perfect partner to the song’s lyrical and musical content. Filmed in Hawaii, the video sees the band work with the same team responsible for the “Original Sin” music video, consisting of director Aerin Moreno, creative director Amber Park and stylist Johnny Wujek.
The duo shares the story behind their latest music video “This is one of our favorite videos we’ve made. The experience being in Kualoa Park in Hawaii was… awe. Being in that environment is so inspiring, and really gives us a sense of our beautiful insignificance (lol that’s a Sophie line of course).”
The Florida based musical pair continue to recount the filming process “In the first take, Tuck started clapping and that became a fun theme throughout the video. We ran through the valleys, squeezed persimmons… squeezed tennis balls filled with persimmon juice. And it climaxes with Soph quite literally climaxing, on the top of a mountain–she turns herself on by playing the guitar on the top of the mountain, with a persimmon between her legs. It’s as absurd as the lyrics of the song.”
“Kakee” is the fourth track to be released from their upcoming sophomore album, Wet Tennis is set to be released on 29th April 2022 via Ulta. To accompany the album’s release the band have launched a new merch line, the new Wet Tennis products are available to purchase from their webstore. Fans can also pre-order Wet Leg on physical formats including an ombre picture disc vinyl and a limited amount of exclusive autographed CDs.
The new track is the band’s third single to be released this year, “Original Sin” was their second single release for 2022 and the third single to be released from Wet Tennis. The track soon caught the attention of other musicians with many putting their own spin on the record, the group recently released two remixes by Felix Jaehn and New York-based disco duo Crush Club. Fans will be able to catch the group live this year, Sofi Tukker will play at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on 15th September 2022.
