Staples of the indie scene, Tom Smith of Editors fame, and Andy Burrows from We Are Scientists have dropped their latest single ‘Parliament Hill’, under their collaborative title ‘Smith and Burroughs’. The track is taken from their upcoming album ‘Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough’ which is set to be released on 5th February 2021, via PIAS Records.
A true ballad, ‘Parliament Hill’ is a love-letter to memories the duo made in London. Emotive vocals sing of lost nights and the sights in the city, all while powerful backing made up of piano chords, light drums, captivating guitar melodies shine underneath. It’s a track that makes an impact, being littered with sentimentality that is sure to capture anyone who listens. “It’s a beautiful song for now, when we’re all craving connection to people and places,” said Smith in a press statement. “It encapsulates a real, still moment and is my favourite song on the album.”
The upcoming album that will feature the track will be the first full-length release from the group in over a decade, with their last album ‘Funny Looking Angels’ being released in December 2011. Despite believing had finished releasing music together, and each spending the last few years working on various projects with their respective bands, the two still wrote together, and after 10 years, decided to put their collaborations into the second release together.
‘Parliament Hill’ is the third single from the anticipated release, with tracks ‘Old TV Shows’ and ‘All The Best Moves’ being release beforehand. When asked about the process of collaborating again, the pair spoke with sheer delight, Burrough’s stating that the collaboration was “…the most idyllic musical getaway I could have ever dreamed of.” Smith also added to the statement, claiming; “I never thought this second album would not happen. It has its own force which is the power of our collaborative writing and voices.”
