Slowthai has been involved in an altercation at the NME Awards. As well as this, the rapper was criticized for his behavior toward host Katherine Ryan. Footage from the event shows Slowthai drop his microphone from the stage. The microphone was subsequently thrown back at him, as well as a drink.
The ‘Doorman’ artist made sexual comments toward Katherine Ryan. He was accused of making the host feel uncomfortable. However, Ryan tweeted that Slowthai “didn’t make me uncomfortable”.
Ryan and co-host Julie Adenuga were seen attempting to calm the situation on stage. Social media footage shows Slowthai and Ryan with their arms around each other.
Julie Adenuga asked at one point, “What is happening?”, as the rapper asked for Ryan to smell his cologne.
“Babygirl, I don’t want to have to do this to you right now, but everybody – she needs to understand the levels right now,” Slowthai remarked to Katherine. He added: “If you want to do something, see me later,”

Check out Katherine’s full tweet below. At another point in the evening, Ryan and Slowthai were seen together again, where he said: “She wants me to tend to her flowers” Katherine appeared to respond rather sarcastically that she “loves” him.
As Slowthai departed from the stage, Ryan said: “Thank you for the attention,” She further added: “You are younger than my babysitter”. A user responded to Ryan’s tweet to suggest she was employing sarcasm to “mask her discomfort”.
Ryan reinforced her views in responses, saying: “He was fine. I’m the kind of woman he can say whatever he likes to! He’s fun.”
He didn’t make me uncomfortable. This is why we need women in positions of power. I knew he had lost from the moment he opened his mouth like any heckler coming up against a COMIC – not a woman – a COMIC. I was operating 2/10. What a sweet boy. I defused it. Tonight was fun! ❤️ https://t.co/BBMPZpIvhy — Katherine Ryan (@Kathbum) February 13, 2020
“NME, thank you,” Slowthai said as he collected his award for Hero of the Year. At this point, he pointed down at someone in the audience, saying “thank you for ruining my speech”. He dropped his microphone.
Someone from the audience called him a “wasteman” using his microphone, lobbing it back at him with a drink. Throwing his own drink toward the crowd, Slowthai jumped down from the stage, held back by security.
According to the Metropolitan Police, no complaints were made. Police did not attend the gig and there has been no investigation into what happened. Elsewhere, Slowthai won the prize for Best Collaboration with Mura Masa for ‘Deal Wiv It’.
He was nominated in six further categories. Other winners included Taylor Swift, (Best Solo Act in the world), Little Simz, (Best British Album), AJ Tracey, (Best British Song), and Lana Del Rey with the Best Album in the World for ‘Norman F***ing Rockwell’.
However, since the ceremony, Slowthai took to Twitter and has since apologized for his “shameful actions”.
.@nme please forward my award to @kathbum for she is the hero of the year. what started as a joke between us escalated to a point of shameful actions on my part. i want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry. i am not a hero. (1/2)
