Sleaford Mods returns with their new song and accompanying music video for Mork N Mindy. This new track is the first single off the upcoming album Spare Ribs, which was announced last Friday, October 30th. The record will be the duo’s 6th full-length album and is scheduled to be released January 15th, 2021.
The English post-punk duo performed live on Seth Meyers’ talk show last week in promotion for the highly-anticipated upcoming album, playing the new song Mork N Mindy. The UK singer, Billy Nomates features on the track and also in the new music video.
Among artists that have been confirmed as collaborators on Spare Ribs are Nomates, Amy Taylor, Dr. Lisa Mckenzie and Ben Wheatley who directed the music video for Mort N Mindy. As well as, of course, the classic minimal electric-punk sounds from member and musician Andrew Fearn and the strong vocals from lead-singer and member Jason Williamson.
The duo are critically acclaimed for their modern instrumentation and musical style, but Sleaford Mods is even more notable for their politically charged and culturally relevant lyrics. Their newest single, Mork N Mindy, being dedicated to the unnecessary deaths and victims of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The group, formed in Nottingham in the early 2010’s, rose to critical praise in part because of their political relevance but the duo has seen it’s fair share of acclaim for their music. Key Markets, the band’s third studio album reached #11 in the UK album charts and earned the group a gig in the renowned festival Glastonbury.
In 2017 the duo’s 4th studio album English Tapas reached #12 on the UK charts and the following album Eton Alive was released in 2019 to critical praise and reached #1 in UK vinyl sales. Sleaford Mod’s recent success makes their upcoming 2021 album Spare Ribs highly anticipated for critics and fans alike.
Due to safety concerns surrounding the global Covid-19 pandemic, the duo has cancelled all live-performances in 2020. There are still no updates on possible tour-dates for 2021 or other gigs scheduled a this time for the post-punk duo. Fans can watch Sleaford Mod’s Seth Meyers performance above.
