Welsh heavy metal band Skindred have released a new lyric video for ‘Struggle’, featuring a calm and an acoustic sound, unlike the band’s other tracks. It features emotional and hopeful lyrics such as “Loving’s always up to you/ You fight for it that’s what you do”. The new single will feature as a bonus track in the upcoming re-release of their 2007 album ‘Roots Rock Riot’, which is due to come out on 23rd April.
The members have said that they felt now is an appropriate time to release ‘Struggle’ in midst of the pandemic, where they hope to deliver a positive message to fans in these difficult times: “To us, this song conveys a message of hope when you’re in the battle for love. We have all been there and sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Struggle is about keeping on with the fight as it will be worth it in the end. Life is sometimes a struggle and this year it has really highlighted that. To us, it’s as important today as it was when we wrote it over 15 years ago. We’re pleased it’s getting the chance to be heard and hopefully, people will draw a positive message from it.”
Matt Squire, the producer of ‘Roots Rock Riot’ can be credited for the success of the album and regards Skindred as one of the most important bands in the British heavy rock music scene, saying: “Longevity is all about being real. Times were changing when the album was made, and if the band hadn’t been real in what they did they might have been passed off as a metal band with an innovative singer. Roots Rock Riot presented Skindred as a band with amazing songs. Those songs are made up of a crazy amalgamation of sounds, while remaining absolutely undeniable.”
Re-release of ‘Roots Rock Riot’ can be pre-ordered here on their website, with three colour variants for vinyl – transparent orange, transparent green and a special 3-colour red, yellow & green. In addition to ‘Struggle’, the album will also feature another exclusive track ‘It’s A Crime’ which was only previously released on the Japanese version. The new music video for ‘It’s A Crime’ was released on 3rd February this year. Check out the lyric video for ‘Struggle’ below.
