UK legend Skepta hosted the first ‘SK cup’ to celebrate the release of his football boot with Nike. The boot coincides with the release of the SK tailwinds, the fourth shoe Tottenham rapper Skepta has released in collaboration with Nike.
Skepta released his first shoe with Nike in 2017, releasing his Morroco inspired air max 97s , 2018 followed with the Nike BWs and Air max Deluxe in the same year and then the Shoxs in 2019. Skepta’s return with the tailwinds and Phantom boots has taken two years but was worth the wait for a historic moment as Skepta become the first music artist to collaborate on a boot with the prestigious shoe company.
Skepta’s ‘SK’ phantoms were first worn by Manchester United Starboy Mason Greenwood, scoring against Leicester in the boots official debut.
To complete the rollout of the first SK boot, Skepta hosted the ‘SK cup’. Taking place on a London rooftop the four 7-aside teams were; Team SK, Team Homecoming, Starz league and Versus. The star-studded lineups saw the likes of NSG, Chip, JME, Avelino and more, with the event concluding with victory to the Starz league whose team consisted of some serious UK rap and footballing talent with the likes of Avelino and professional footballer and artist Don E.
Skepta continues to break down barriers for the UK rap and grime scene, the trailblazer called in fellow British Nigerian Dave to model for the second colourway of his Nike ‘SK’ tailwind.
Skepta’s ability to fly the flag for black British communities and cultures no matter where he goes is truly remarkable and as he continues to bulldoze more and more doors down it is unimaginable what the 38-year-old legend will be able to achieve.
The Nike Phantom Sk alongside the Nike Sk Air Max Tailwind are now available to purchase via the SNKRS app.
