Sir Elton John has been announced to perform at BST Hyde Park 2022, the singer’s set will take place on 24th June 2022.
Sir John took to his Instagram to share the news with fans.
The musical icon will encompass his 2022 Summer appearance into his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road- The Final tour’, the singer’s Hyde Park performance will mark the tour’s last London performance. Sir John’s award-winning tour restarts in May 2022 in Frankfurt with dates across Europe and ends in North America with dates in Vancouver, Chicago and various other cities. The epic four-year tour officially ends in 2023 with performances in New Zealand and yet to announced dates in Australia.
The annual Summer concert series will return next year with Sir Elton John, he will also be joined by soon to be announced, special guests. CEO of European Festivals at the world’s leading live entertainment company AEG, Jim King has provided the following statement concerning Sir John’s upcoming performance. King expresses BST Hyde Park’s importance within live events and conveys Sir John’s significance within the music industry. “American Express presents BST Hyde Park has always stood for the world’s biggest and most loved artists bringing not just a performance but a truly one-off and memorable event. Elton John has provided the soundtrack to the lives of so many of us and to know that his last tour is coming to Hyde Park, possibly the last time many of us will ever see him play, is one of the most important and ‘must see’ nights of BST Hyde Park ever.”
The exciting news of Sir John’s Hyde Park appearance comes just days before the announcement of the release of his new album, The Lockdown Sessions, set to be released on 22nd October 2021. The new album features various collaborations with some of popular music’s biggest names including his now-famous cover of the Pet Shop Boys hit “It’s a Sin” with Years & Years singer Olly Alexander. The pair made history at this year’s Brit Awards when the artists performed the cover, the duo remained a favourite from the ceremony due to the emotional and stirring response to the performance. The album also features his new hit with Dua Lipa entitled “Cold Heart”, “After All” with Carlie Puth and a cover of the iconic Metallica song “Nothing Else Matters”. The cover’s artist list reads as a new supergroup made up of Sir John, Miley Cyrus, Metallica’s own bassist Robert Trujillo, renowned producer and singer WATT, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
The “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” singer has released the following statement concerning his new release. “All the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory,” he said. “And I realised there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”
American Express presents BST Hyde Park has also announced further artists and dates, grunge heroes Pearl Jam will be taking the stage on Friday 8th July and Saturday 9th July 2022. The “Even Flow” hitmakers will be joined by fellow 90’s icons The Pixies on their Friday performance, the special guest set to perform with Pearl Jam on their Saturday set has yet to be announced. Legendary 80’s group Duran Duran are set to play on Sunday 10th July 2022 and will be joined by special guests Nile Rodgers and CHIC and other acts also yet to be announced.
Presale tickets went on sale this morning for American Express cardholders, general ticket sales are available to buy from Friday 10th September at 10 am.
