Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa’s duet “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)” climbs to Number One in the UK singles charts. After three weeks at Number two, the duo’s single secures this week’s top spot. The 2021 remix incurred an impressive 64,000 chart sales which included 5.9 million streams and 5,000 copies of the limited-edition CD.
Sir John took to this Instagram to celebrate the win and give thanks. The singer who recently underwent hip surgery is photographed with his award.
The single was released on 13th August 2021 via EMI and Mercury Records. The track is a mash-up consisting of four tracks by Sir John remixed by Australian act Pnau. The number one single includes samples of “Sacrifice”, “Kiss the Bride”, “Where’s the Shoorah” and one of the singer’s best-loved tracks “Rocket Man”. Sir John and Pnau have collaborated before, in 2012 the dance trio released the album Good Morning To the Night. The album included remixes of Sir John’s tracks from the 1970s and gave the “Tiny Dancer” singer his last number one album.
This week’s chart position marks the eighth number 1 single for Sir John and is the singer’s 33rd UK top ten single. The iconic artist’s last number-one single, “Ghetto Gospel” was released in 2005 and saw 2pac’s music released posthumously. The number one release also sees Lipa score a chart hat-trick, this week’s position marks Lipa’s third number-one single. Previous number one singles have included the 2017 single “Rules” and the 2018 mega-hit “One Kiss”.
The single has also made musical history, the recent number one has made Sir John the first artist to secure a UK top 10 single in six separate decades. The singer has beaten out some of music’s most popular artists to the crown including Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Elvis Presley who have all achieved a top 10 single in five different decades. Sir John’s victorious career is evident through the singer’s chart success, with 10 of the singer’s 32 albums reaching number one in the UK.
Due to the rise of the pair’s duet Ed Sheeran’s chart reign has finished. After four weeks at number one “Shivers” has dropped to number two this week. Along with Sheeran’s previous single, “Bad Habits”, the singer has accumulated 15 weeks at the top spot. Both singles have been taken from Sheeran’s upcoming album, =, released on 29th October 2021.
Elsewhere within the charts, “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” by Ckay peaks at number three. A new entry entered the charts at number four, Jesy Nelson’s debut single “Boyz feat. Nicki Minaj” becomes this week’s most successful new single. The new single marks Nelson’s first solo release since leaving former group Little Mix. Landing at number five is “Heat Waves” by English rockers Glass Animals. Taken from the band’s third studio album, Dreamland, the single was released on 29th June 2020 and has become the group’s most successful single.
Sir John and Lipa’s duet has been taken from Sir John’s upcoming album, Lockdown Sessions. Set to be released on 22nd October 2021, the album sees the celebrated musician collaborate with popular music’s most popular artists.
