26-year-old singer and producer SG Lewis has dropped a new album called ‘times’ including recent singles released earlier in the year such as ‘One More’, ‘Chemicals’ and ‘Time’. The ten-track album features collaborations with many artists such as Lastlings, Lucky Daye and Frances. ‘times’ is his first debut album, following the success of his six-track EP ‘Dawn’ where he teamed up with Clairo, Honne, Ruel and Kamille.
The album has a theme of New York nightlife in the 70s, while fusing indie pop and dance. SG Lewis comments on the irony of releasing a disco-inspired album in midst of a pandemic, saying: “With the album being, in some ways, an ode to dancefloors and the moments in those rooms, initially there was hesitation around releasing the album, because that whole world of club culture disappeared. The message of the album sort of shifted with the new perspective that came with the pandemic, there was focus on time being a finite thing, and that you can’t waste the time you’ve been given.”
SG Lewis has also announced a one-time online performance to celebrate the release of ‘times’, complete with an after-show Q&A for VIP ticket holders and a live chat, giving the fans a chance to hear the album live for the first time. The singer told DIY Mag: “We find ourselves in a very different situation in 2021, and the perspective of the album has changed greatly in my head. Whilst many of us look forward to the day that everything is back to normal, I saw an opportunity to create memories together regardless of the current circumstance. So I’m hugely excited to share this with you. This experience will deliver a live show to your homes in a way that would not be possible in any real world gig, and will fully immerse you into the times universe. I hope it can provide a little escapism and euphoria in the midst of all this. Let’s have a party.”
The performance starts at 8pm and tickets can be bought here, retailing at £15.
