NME reports that Kasabian guitarist and songwriter has divulged some details about the band’s new album today, including the bold claim that the new project contains “one of the best tunes I’ve ever written.”
Speaking to Q, the guitarist spoke about the delay in the album’s production, but not necessarily in a negative light. Kasabian last released an album in 2014, with 48:13, with recent reports suggesting that the new album was finished last year. “In May the record was done, but I’d never had any time off so I thought ‘You know what? I’m going to have the summer off for the first time in my life’,” he told Q. “It was incredible. I got married, went on holiday for ages and just lived a bit. When I came back in September, I decided to graffiti over everything.
As well as taking a well earned break, Serge also spoke of a change in his writing process, unplugging from the norm, and saying “I’d done everything on an acoustic for the first time and had these beautiful crafted tunes but started graffitiing over the lot, just taking it to another level.”
Pizzorno also discussed Kasabian recording in his home studio, declaring that the band strictly kept to “office hours” with their working, with the guitarist admitting ““I changed the way I worked this time because I usually keep horrendous hours.”
Earlier this week, the band were confirmed as the second headliners for this summer’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, taking their place at the top of the bill next to Muse, marking their first time returning to the festival since headlining in 2012. Two Door Cinema Club, Fatboy Slim, Flume, Jimmy Eat World, The Amity Affliction, Circa Waves and Rat Boy were also revealed to be playing in the same announcement from the festival’s organisers.
