The album is only available to download for free for 99 days. This expiry date to the UK-based groups album adds to their unique, ambiguous representation as musicians. You can download the album here and should do so while you still have the opportunity.
SAULT as a musical collective produce a delicate balance between soul, R&B and house into their music. This balance, as well as their enigmatic status, reluctance to give press interviews and keeping very little about them as a band known by the public, is what adds to their charm and success. Their newest album “NINE” is the perfect representation of this. Back in 2020 Alexis Petridis, from The Guardian, commented that “over the last two years, Sault’s music has arrived out of the blue: no interviews, no photos, no videos, no live appearances, no Wikipedia entry, a perfunctory and entirely non-interactive social media presence” – yet, despite the absence of these popular interactions, SAULT have continued to rise in success. Even Petridis granted their 2020 album “Untitled (Rise)” five out of five stars. “NINE” – their fifth studio album – follows on from “Untitled (Rise)” as well as their other 2020 album “Untitled (Black Is)” which also received critical acclaim.
Whatever SAULT were doing back in 2020 clearly worked. The same can surely be attributed to their latest album, which features ten new and brilliant tracks. Amongst the varied track list can be seen an appearance from British rapper and singer Little Simz. This appearance takes place on the single “You From London“. This collaboration, between Simz and SAULT, is a reminder of SAULT’s first four albums which highlighted the R&B collective’s appreciation for their producer for their producer Dean “Inflo”. “Inflo” was titled winner of the Ivor Novello award for his involvement with Little Simz’ album “Grey Area“. We can only expect great things for all of their efforts into “NINE“.
