UK superstar Sam Smith, has released his eagerly anticipated second album today (November 03 2018), named The Thrill Of It All. This is the follow up to the singers 2014 release of ‘In The Lonely Hour’ which sold 12 million copies worldwide, and has received a number of sales certifications in lots of different countries. In a photo he released on Instagram he told the world “Every song on this record is a little piece of my heart and soul”.
The album is with Capitol Records and features 10 tracks including his newly released singles ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’, ‘Pray’ and ‘Burning’. Smith shared ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’, the albums first single, with the world on September 08 and it was written with collaborators Jimmy Napes and Stargate and is the multi-million-selling singer’s first new material since his 2015 James Bond theme song ‘Writing’s On The Wall‘. It topped the UK Singles Chart at No.1 and made the top five on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Smith collaborated with Timbaland on the track ‘Pray’ which came out on 6 October 2017, and is the sweet sounds of gospel choirs and ballad Sam Smith territory. The rest of the album sticks to lonely piano chords giving Sam a chance to show off his well known falsetto and powerful ‘makes you feel something’ voice.
Discussing his new record with Zane Lowe on Beats1 Smith explained “People are gonna see, this one as I’ve said is about me and something that I’ve gone through… What I’ve been through relationship wise the last year has made me a lot stronger and I feel like I’ve learned some lessons from it.”
“This album actually is not all about me,” he went on to say. “There’s about four songs that are about me and the rest are about different things and different people in my life and what they’ve gone through. Different in my opinions on different things. I wanted to welcome people back in and I want it to be about my voice and about the storytelling of something that I’ve gone through.”
The album cover is a black and white close-up Sam, looking very different to what he did in 2014, after a tremendous weight-loss. This is mentioned in Sams recent appearance on the famous ‘Carpool Karaoke’ with our very own loved Brit James Corden. You can see this below here.
