Sam Fender has released his highly anticipated new single, ‘Wild Long Lie’, which blends his emotive storytelling lyrics with anthemic rock. The song gives fans another taste of what’s to come from his upcoming album, People Watching, following the release of the album’s first single, also titled ‘People Watching’. This adds to fan excitement as the Geordie Singer-songwriter prepares to kick off his UK and Ireland tour tonight in Dublin.
‘Wild Long Lie’ sees Fender back in his familiar space of raw, personal lyrics, exploring the internal conflict of loving his small town while feeling guilty for outgrowing it and distancing himself from relationships that are holding him back. With his powerful vocals and driving rhythm, the track builds to a gripping chorus that resonates with listeners. The song beautifully captures the feeling of internal struggle, a theme that Fender has become known for. The energetic instrumentation brings the emotion to life and leaves fans eagerly anticipating more from the album, set for release in February.
The single offers another preview of what’s to come from People Watching, with the new album promised to have a slightly different sound from Fender’s previous two records. His debut album, Hypersonic Missiles, launched him as a rising star, claiming the Number One spot on the UK Official Album Charts in September 2019. He repeated this success with his 2021 album, Seventeen Going Under. Now, People Watching is set to delve deeper into themes of self-reflection and familial bonds that many fans can connect with, likely securing him another Number One album upon its release.
In addition to ‘Wild Long Lie’, Fender has also confirmed the release of the bonus track, ‘Me and the Dog’ which is available on all streaming platforms today. This track is not on the album but Fender confirms he felt it had to be heard by fans. It offers a much different vibe, with a more stripped-back sound that contrasts the energy of the new single. ‘Me and the Dog’ is an intimate song that showcases Fender’s ability to balance energetic rock with acoustic arrangements. As always, the lyrics are heartfelt and gritty which perfectly depicts Fender’s songwriting talents.
@samfender A few of you have been asking about Me & The Dog – CD single B side. I love this tune, it was one of the early ones and has existed in various forms since l started writing for album 3. It didn’t quite fit for the final record but it felt like it still deserved to be out there. X #newmusic ♬ original sound – Sam Fender
